How to Effectively Stop Colds Without Drugs and Solutions

Don’t wait for the cold or flu to set in! During this period, it is good to remember some rules that will help you avoid cough, sore throat, fever and other unwanted manifestations.

During the cold season, it is essential to learn how to avoid contact with viruses. A runny nose, sore throat, cough, congestion, headaches, sneezing and fever can exhaust you and affect your lifestyle. So, here are some things you can do now to prevent such symptoms, according to ‘Prevention’!

1. Use a humidifier

Low humidity can dry out your nasal passages, which can eventually lead to colds setting in. The humidifier keeps the mucous membranes of the nose moist, which keeps germs away. Suppose you have decided to invest in such a device. In that case, it is essential to sanitize it regularly because the warm and humid environment favours the appearance of mould, which causes cold-like symptoms

2. Beef, eggs, orange juice

During this period, it is good to consume foods containing vitamin D. Studies have shown that a deficiency of this vitamin can cause cough, sore throat or stuffy nose. Therefore, you can find essential sources of vitamin D in foods such as salmon, beef, egg yolks, orange juice, cheese and mushrooms.

3. Disinfect your phone

Germs can quickly settle on the remote control, phone, computer keys or kitchen counter. In fact, a study conducted by specialists at the University of Arizona found that cell phones can carry 10 times more bacteria than toilet seats. So, to avoid the cold, consider regularly disinfecting the objects you use most often with special wipes. In the end, wipe them with a dry and soft cloth.

4. Rest helps you

Did you know that lack of sleep can weaken your immune system? This was confirmed by a study by JAMA Internal Medicine, which showed that people who don’t get enough rest are more likely to catch a cold than those who sleep eight hours a night or more. Specialists recommend that you sleep at least 7 to 9 hours a night.

5. Stay away from stress!

Stress causes the body to release cortisol, weakening the immune system’s ability to fight infection. So try to eliminate stress as much as possible! Start with daily nature walks or runs in the park because exercise helps. Yoga classes, meditation and reading, are also helpful.
